Soundbar to replace front speakers?

by KyleStych / November 11, 2010 5:52 AM PST

Hey all, I'm looking to replace my 3 front speakers (front left, center and front right) with a soundbar that I can hang under my flat screen. Most soundbar systems I've found are powered faux-5-way systems. Are there any 3-way passive speakers out there to do the job of these without needing separate speakers?

Background: I'm hanging my flat screen in a corner (trust me, it's the only place) and I'm trying to eliminate the entertainment stand below it. I have a Yamaha 5.1 receiver/speaker system with the rear speakers hardwired below the floor. Thus, I'm looking for one speaker to do the job of the front three that I can hang under the TV that has speaker-level inputs for each one it's replacing. I've seen some that are around $1000, but I only spent $350 on the HTIB, so I'm not really looking to drop a grand on the additional part. Ideas?

I am not aware of a soundbar that acts as just the front

three speakers. They generally are designed to be a replacement for an entire 5.1 system.

LCR or 3-channel
by KyleStych / December 14, 2010 6:40 AM PST

Found what I was looking for, finally. They're called either 3-channel or LCR (Left, Center, Right) speakers. Most run $500+ (some ~$1200 if you feel like getting ripped off by Crutchfield), but I did find a decent option from PartsExpress.com with the Dayton BS36 36" LCR Soundbar for under $200. I haven't purchased it yet, but considering the options, I'm much happier spending under $200 vs $500 or more.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
