And there's a remote with the product. If you are missing a part, well, you'll need it.
Hey all. Forgive me if this isn't an appropriate forum for this question but I figured I'd give it a shot since Samsung's chat support connected me with a guy who clearly didn't speak English well and did absolutely nothing but copy and paste a link to the basic troubleshooting page that I'd already looked at.
So I bought this sound bar and subwoofer pair (HW-H550) several months ago and I haven't had any problem until now. When I plugged the sound bar and subwoofer in, they automatically synced up wirelessly without any issue and have remained that way until this morning when all of a sudden I noticed that the bass had gone out. I checked the sub and the blue "link" light was off with only the orange "stand by" light on. I unplugged and plugged back in both the sound bar and subwoofer several times and nothing changed.
So the basic troubleshooting for this issue says to press the ID set button on the sub for 5 seconds while the sound bar is off, then hold the mute button on the sound bar remote for 5 seconds and then turn the sound bar on. Problem there is...this system was a display piece in Best Buy and I got it for a discount. They didn't give me a remote with it. I didn't even know there was a remote until reading the troubleshooting. Never really had a need for one since it automatically synced up with the volume controls on my cable remote.
I went ahead and held the ID set button on the subwoofer down until the blue link light started blinking and then tried to fiddle with the sound bar, which obviously didn't work. Oddly, even though the troubleshooting page says that you'll only have a 30 second window of the link light blinking for you to do step 2 with the sound bar, but that doesn't seem to be the case. My sub's link light has been continuously blinking since I pressed the button, and the orange stand by light won't come back on. Even when I unplug the sub and plug it back in now, I get the blinking blue light rather than the solid orange light. But without the remote I haven't been able to get the sound bar to say ID set, so I'm stuck and the sound bar just says "check subwoofer" every time I turn it on.
So obviously it seems like I'm just going to have to order a remote for this sound bar from Samsung so I can hopefully fix the problem by resetting the ID. But is there really NO other way to get the ID set function to kick in on the sound bar without the remote? And is it normal for this kind of thing to just happen right out of the blue when the sound bar and subwoofer have been synced without any issue for months and I didn't change anything?
