Sound went out completely on pc;all programs/apps

by gardiendubut / March 25, 2009 7:34 AM PDT

The sound totally and suddenly completely went off/out on my Compaq Presario 5000 running XP.Never happened before on this older rig.Volume settings are normal(varying them has no effect).System Restore and reboots ineffective on problem. Virus/malware/spyware shows no threat.Any suggestions to fix this problem short of buying a new pc! would be really appreciated asap!

Two Step Solution Here...
by Grif Thomas Forum moderator / March 25, 2009 10:05 AM PDT

1. First attempt to install the latest drivers for your sound card and hopefully revive it.

2. If that doesn't work, install a new sound card. And if it's got an integrated sound device, disable the integrate device before installing the new one.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like a case of the cold.

You need to find these two programs. They are both safe and free.
First download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Run it. Then get ATF Cleaner and run that.

You will be able to get your sound back indeed.
