Sound Recorder in Windows 7

Sep 30, 2010 11:36AM PDT

I made a few sound recordings in Windows 7 using the sound recorder. They are WMA files. I downloaded a converter and when I tried to convert my files to mp3's I got an error saying the files were DMR protected. I made them of my own voice so why would these files be protected?
Thank you for any help.

Just ideas.

This is why we avoid WMA in general so try AUDACITY and see if you can record it in MP3.

Thanks Bob, I did try audacity first and it didn't recognize the files. That is when I searched cnet for a converter. I downloaded Koyote free converter. It did not recognize the files either.

Misread your answer

Hi again Bob,
I misread your post. I was able to record in Audacity. I was hoping to avoid having to record all over again as I made 19 recordings in total and it took me all night Happy.
I was hoping to find a program that would just change the format of the wav files to mp3.
Thanks again for your quick reply.

There is another way.

Audacity while a bit hard on new users can record what you hear. So it is possible to play your file and have Audacity record what is being played then we can edit the extra at the beginning or end of our Audacity recording then save it as MP3.

Sorry but this is usually how folk learn to avoid WMA for such use.

ANOTHER WAY. Take your WMA and burn them to an AudioCD with WMP. Now RIP that CD to MP3s.

That's 2 ideas.

Hi Bob,
Thanks you so much for those 2 ideas. I will try them out later this afternoon.
