Sound Problem

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 with XP SP2, 512 Ram, 2.4 ghz P4, sigmatel c major audio built in speakers.If you need any more info let me know. What happens is I can hear sound when I first start up, but then if I put my computer into standby mode (when I close the laptop), the sound stops working and I have to go to the device manager, get the properties for my sound device, change it to do not use this device (disable), and back to use this device, and restart before the sound comes back. I've used the troubleshooter, and nothing besides what I just mentioned works, and it happens each time I go to standby mode. Any ideas?

Sometimes they have updated BIOS and drivers for you.
