sound plays trough both headphones and laptop speakers

hi, i have been having this problem for quite a long time, it seems that when i try to play music, or any sound at all, in my headphones the sound hears from both the headphones and the in-built laptop speakers. also, there seems to be a red LED light coming from inside the headphone jack, i think that it might be related to my problem since it started to glow around the time i noticed this problem.
