Sound on an HDMI pass-through

by j_rabbit / February 27, 2007 3:50 AM PST

I have an Oppo DVD player with HDMI output, a Sony receiver with HDMI pass-through, and a Panasonic plasma with the option to add an HDMI input. How does the sound get processed? HDMI passes sound and video. I definitely don't want the sound getting passed to the TV. If I have digital optical and HDMI connected to the receiver from the DVD will it figure it out?

You will have to run an optical digital audio cable from the DVD player to the receiver. John

Well on some receivers you can tell it to just pass on video and not audio. Or if that isn't an option for you, just use the digital audio cable option described above.
