Sound not working on PC

by wallg / August 22, 2009 12:56 PM PDT

Not sure if my terminology is correct.

OS is Windows XP
PC is HP desktop, not sure about model, since it is not mine (neighbors PC).

The generic or default system sound card in PC is not working. PC did have a Sound Blaster card installed, but seemed to be cause of system crash "blue screen" at bootup. Removed Sound Blaster card and now PC boots up ok.

For now, trying to get the generic or default system sound to work, but it will not. In "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" under Volume tab, it says no audio device found. And under Audio tab, default devices are grayed out or unavailable.

Speakers are plugged in to the generic/system default port, but no sound.

Any ideas?
