You say nothing about your system. Sound from the monitor? Does the monitor have onboard speakers that you are trying to tie into the system along with the externals? It just seems odd that there would be sound coming from the monitor, more information might help.

I am not trying to use my onboard monitor speakers with my external speakers. Just the external speakers themselves. I get sound from my monitor speakers if I do not have the externals plugged in, when I do plug the externals I get no sound at all. If i plug a headset in, I get sound from that. So I am at a loss.

I have two asus 24" monitors im not sure the specific model.

i have an i5 processor 16gb ram geforce gtx 580x2 sli conection 225 ssd hard drive

Let's hear more about those externals.

I had externals in 1993 that would do the same thing because the models back then didn't need an amplifier in the externals.

You supplied a little detail about the PC but still so little about the parts with trouble.

I re-read your posts and no where is that detail about "I stopped getting sound"

This is a slim clue but since the headphones work and the externals do not, and you have elected not to share model numbers as well as details like "the power light on the externals is on, the volume knob on the exteranals is up and the mute is off and these work on my honda" I am left with only one conclusion.

These externals are dead.

Speakers etc.

I think Bob Proffitt pretty much answered the overall. However, my next question was going to be:Are/were these speakers powered? In other words, do/did they require and external power adapter/inverter? As I said I am going along with Mr. Proffitt, dead units, done deal.
