I tinkered around with the bios and got the AC97 onboard audio detected. Now It can play the startup music or mp3's in winamp but whenever I run dxdiag.exe I get an error when I try to test DirectSound. My games also give me the error of not being able to reproduce directsound. I use DirectX 9.0b.
I have a Giga-byte 8S650GXM motherboard with onboard AC '97 sound and running a P4 processor with 2.0 Ghz and 256 MB RAM.I run Windows 98 SE. My problem is that my onboard AC97 audio, whose drivers I downloaded only a week ago from the giga-byte website, shows up in my Device Manager but till a few days ago would show in the Multimedia tab (control panel) as well and it would still not work.
I could only use Winamp to play mp3's but some of my games, with the exception of ut2003 would not detect my AC97 audio and wouldnt play any sounds. But now my multimedia tab says "no playback devices" as well as "no recording devices".As a result, I am able to play absolutely no sound. What has happened to my PC and is there any workaround? Thanks.
