1. System Restore to when it worked.
2. Use "Driver Rollback" on the audio and NEVER EVER accept a driver from Windows Update.
3. It is possible for the audio system to fail and never work again. In those cases we use the usual sub 9 buck USB audio since fixing is as much as a new laptop.
4. After the owner backs up their stuff, use the Recovery Media. If the sound fails you know it's hardware.

i have just turned on my laptop n i noticed during the windows welcome screen the windows tune didnt play, i have just clicked on windows media play to play some music n i got this warning :
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly
so i then went on to control panel > sound, speech and audio devices > sound and audio devices
i noticed that under Volume it says No Audio Device, n everything underneath is greyed out,
under Audio it says No Playback Device
when i click on Hardware tab it brings up a list of devices
