Resolved Question

Sound device icon

Sep 16, 2011 7:01AM PDT

I am using Windows xp pro.
The sound device icon is not in the task bar. I have re-booted, done System Restore, Windows Updates, and it will not surface. I have gone to Sounds in Control Panel and checked and unchecked and checked the box again to show the icon, hit apply, OK and still nothing. Is there something I'm missing?

Hmm, how did I miss that?

I found that the most common reason is the SNDVOL32.EXE is missing.

Google that and see how folk fix it. It's got a lot of prior discussions and cures.

Sound Icon

Bob, thank you for your help. However, the icon has re-appeared. I had another problem that cropped up right when the sound icon disappeared. I was going to ask about that after I got the icon solved. I googled how to turn off the piercing warning beep that was strangely happening quite often. I found a fix and voila, the sound icon was back. I will save your suggestion in case this happens again.
