Question

Sound Delay

May 9, 2017 9:30PM PDT

I have a brand new Dell XPS-13 ultrapoartable with Windows 10 Creators Update. There is a sound delay of 2 seconds. Cuckoo at top of hour sounds two seconds later. Caps Lock sounds 2 seconds after it is pressed. Please help Windows Audio troubleshooter is no help.

Something wrong, but unclear what. Contact Dell tech support and if they can't fix it by phone, have it fixed under warranty or return it.

This is not the cure.

But what I would try.

1. Be sure the driver is from Dell. Use your service tag at dell.com.
2. Be sure all sound effects (reverb and others) are turned off.

Realtek

Thanks for your reply Proffitt. One other thing. In Device Manager it is showing "Realtek Audio" not "Realtek High Definition Audio". Also Realtek HD Manager is running but there is no window and nothing in the tray (my WinVista and Win7 computers have this where you can adjust many things such as room configuration, balance, etc.) Could this be a factor?

I'm going with no.

For years I never noticed that to matter. That is, for decades I just go to Dell with my service tag, get their latest driver for this PC, install and triple check all sound effects (reverb and such) are all off.
