Sound Delay in Sat/HDTV/Home Theatre combination

by ATSut / August 4, 2009 10:36 PM PDT

I recently purchased a Samsung HDTV and connected it to my Satellite (Sky) box and Panasoninc Home Theatre system.
If I use the internal TV Speakers the sound is fine. If however I use the home theatre the sound is delayed compared to the pictures.
Sky box is connected to tv with SCART (no HDMI on SKY box), TV connected to Mome Theatre with HDMI, also have audio output (phono cables) connected to provide TV sound to Theatre System. Without the phono cables I can't get any sound through the theatre system. Any suggestions as to how best to set this up to get rid of the delay.
I see from other threads you have recommended using an optical cable, is this the only solution.

First off, what is "SCART," second, you don't mention if you have a dvd player in the mix somewhere. You don't need hdmi from tv to receiver AT ALL. You just need to pass sound to the receiver, not picture. Optical cable is all you need. Is your satellite company willing to spring for a new box that has hdmi outputs?

ATSut,

SCART is a RGB connection cable (Analog, I believe) common with Europe and PAL-enabled video devices.

You might check the "delay" options on your home theater system and see if adjusting that will sync up your audio and video. Is it possible to run your SkyBox through the HT system, and then run the HT system to your television?

I'm not real familiar with the regional connection structures, but I'll do the best I can. The other option is to contact Sky to explain your problem and see if there is an update or refresh they can provide on the box. Sometimes refreshing a box can clear up many minor issues.

Keep me posted.

Sounds issues resolved

I appear to have resolved the delay issues through connecting the equipment in a different order and also with some adjustments of delays through the user interface for the Home Theatre system.

Taking the audio out directly from the Sat box to the Home Theatre instead of going through the TV first made a significant difference. The small amount of lag still evident was removed by juggling the delay options in the Theatre system.

I didn't need to go as far as buying an optical cable, works fine with phonos.

Thanks for the advice.
