Sound Card Help!!

Dec 11, 2004 4:26PM PST

First of all, i would like to say that my sound card (which is a SB LIVE! Audio [DF80]) came with my motherboard (which is a P4C800-E Deluxe), secondly...Until about a week ago, my sound starting working ONLY with certain programs, such as windows media player, realplayer, winamp, msn AUDIO (to speak with other people)...But most sounds such as these dont work anymore; MSN Login/email notification sounds (yes they are enabled in msn), windows boot sounds (you know the sound when windows boots up), ANY sort of sound affiliated with startup for that matter, flash movies/online flash or animation videos, and some more things which i forgot. Also, i tried reinstalling the drivers, installing new ones, deleting them, basically ive tried everything to do with driver reinstallation. And, my volume icon in my taskbar just suddenly disappeared, i have tried doing everything possible which has been posted on forums to get it back, but nothing worked so far. What puzzles me most is why certain sounds work and certain ones dont...I would REALLY appreciate some help because its really starting to get on my nerves, thanks.

Is the integrated audio on the motherboard disabled?

What's the default playback device (For Win XP: Control Panel - Sound and Audio Devices - Audio tab)

To disable the integrated audio, go to the BIOS to disable it. The motherboard manual will tell you how to access the BIOS settings (either F2, F10, or the Delete key).

Also, in the "Sound and Audio Properties" - Control Panel, in the Volume tab is "Place volume icon in taskbar" checked?
