Question

Feb 26, 2016 11:58AM PST

Just purchased this wonderful new TV...We want some kind of sound system ... Lots of info out there 5.1 this etc - what does it all mean - or cut to the chase and say GET A SOUND BAR (better yet - link to something on Amazon) ...Does that one bar give you "surround sound" - Looking to spend 200-300 (but less if we can)...To be used for TV/Movies - Music? Maybe...not sure of all the functionalities of the TV yet... Wired / Wireless...Thanks to all providing input on this!

Sound Bars are not recommended . Surround sound is best when you have separate boxes placed apart from each other which gives the try dynamics in surrounding sound and have sounds reaching you from the strategic angles.
The Energy 5.1 Take Classic Home Theater System is an excellent Home Theater System that would do a superb job for you. Very decent sound quality and you can easily place these speakers around the room to give you full surround sound effect.

You would need a standard AV Receiver & surround speakers/subwoofer for true 5.1 surround.

If you could increase your budget a little, you could do it right by obtaining those two items. Second choice to fit a modest budget would be a HTIB (home theater in a box, which normally includes receiver, speakers & sub). An Onkyo HTIB could suffice.

It is possible to find deals on basic 5.1 AV receivers & speakers that would suffice. Look in your local used audio shop, in addition to Amazon. Some entry level speakers I often recommend are the Energy Take Classic 5.1.
