Sorry, something unexpected happened - Windows Live Mail

by Steve Sawyer / December 31, 2011 10:02 PM PST

In the last few days, each time I launch WLM, I keep getting the message "Sorry, something unexpected happened and Windows Live Mail must close. Your most recent changes may not be saved." It gives me the one option of clicking "OK" which closes it.. After a few of these, I left it there and just kept working in WLM. Eventually WLM stopped opening, and I found the fix here (Task Manager - delete wlmail.exe process) and thought I was good to go. But I'm still getting that error message when I open, and all my contacts are missing.
Can anyone tell me what is happening? I'm particularly upset about the contacts since discovered their loss trying to export them so I could import them into another client. Are they gone forever?
