I don't use one...
Nov 26, 2006 7:48AM PST

going on 2 years this february. That is when I bought my first mac running OSX.

Will I get burned someday? Maybe... but one thing to keep in mind is that the mac os doesn't run executable files. Less likely to get infected with out knowing it - like what happens on winboxes.

Someday, some Blue Meanie may figure out how to jam us mac users (maybe even as I speak) but as of right now the environment is pretty safe. Just use common sense... don't take candy or car rides from strangers and keep your eye on the news for the day they find a significant hack... and you should be OK. Happy

A./V for Mac
Nov 26, 2006 8:09AM PST

As Grim says, right now it is not necessary. There are currently NO viruses, in the wild, for OS X.

I have not used AV since before OS X was launched and have only seen one (1) virus since 1984.

If you feel you have to have AV, you might as well go with ClamAVX which is free and will detect WIndows viruses so that you will not pass along the nasties to your lesser gifted friends.

Remember, I am not saying that you are invulnerable. Just that for the past 6 years, OS X has not been attacked successfully.
