Sonyhandycam Import/Capture Help

by loyaltrekie / April 8, 2007 7:21 AM PDT

I recently aquired a not so new(its from 2004) Sonyhandycam DVR-101. I also got my hands on a sony usb cable for it,but since I bought it second hand from a friend, I didnt get any software (if there was any that came with it to begin with) I tend to find myself pretty intelligent in term of technology but rather then continue my failures with this I thought I would ask for a little bit of assistance.

I have been wondering if I could double up the camcorder as a webcam of sorts, I have tried using the cord, switching the camcorder to usb mode, and recording in WMM(windows movie maker) but it says no device found. Which leads me to believe that I dont have the necessary hardware/drivers that I require. Im running the normal Windows XP-SP2, I figured something from 2004 would have a preinstalled driver from such a large company(sony). I have looked around on the main Sony webpage and havent found that which I require.

I also heard that it might be possible to use the camera as a buffer for recording games on consoles (xbox 360/ps2(3) ) and the sorts, if someone could shed some light on this also that would be greatly apreciated.

Thanks in advance for any info that you can provide. I look forward to your replys Happy

Do you mean a DVR DVD-101?
by boya84 / April 8, 2007 7:52 AM PDT

or DCR DVD-101?

In which country was this purchased originally?

Have you contacted Sony (rather than just look around a web portal?

Sorry, the actual model is the DCR DVD-101, Its a fairly old model in terms of electronics, and it was originally purchased in the states, I believe he ordered it from Circuit City when it first released two years ago, but I cant gurantee that statement.

I also sent them and email and got the generic email back, stating pretty much what I said reworded, they stated that they dont keep software for old(er) model(s) in there software section on there website, or something like that. Also in my experience with electronics its almost better to ask the general consumer public rather then the manufacturer, since most manufacturers will give you those real generic answers, such as "did you power cycle it" "it SHOULD work" etc etc. Thus why I pursued this avenue rather then continuing to bug Sony.In hopes that someone could find the driver or a compatible one(and/or) other items I need/want, on either Sony or another trusted site.
