PS. Notes, tips, caveats.

The most common complaints about such setups are about the volume control. Volume control is done by the headphone system, not the remote.

The next most common complaint is about how to enable both TV speakers and the headset or switching. It's may not be possible. In the case of Samsungs I'll write it is not possible.

Finally there are some reports the optical output has to be set to stereo or PCM for everything to work. This is not always the case but good to know going in.

I have bought all the doodads and now the optical cable that I bought from them not only does not fit tv it doesn't even fit the box they sold me. I give up hope most shows have closed captions.

Some come with caps that have to come off. Some are a tight fit. Have a friend try this.

U were right, I have the cables hooked up. I have static on the phones. I unhooked them from the TV and I now have it hooked to the satellite box still static. I quest I will try the Bluetooth DVD player. I will get back tomorrow.

Static?

Doesn't tell me much. I take it the wireless headphones were tested with a normal setup first?

It would be a shame to have defective headphones dragging you down this early in the game.

Earphones are fine, they work with a tv that has an earphone jack. Will keep fiddling

Static/Sony earphones

Have tested the whole set up a on tv using ear phones, all of the parts work perfectly. On my tv when I run the optical cable to the Insignia box then plug in RCA connector and the n run it to the Insignia digital analog converter. I the run a cable earphone transmitter and I get static. I have tried all channels no change. Best Buy Geeks now say I need optical capable earphones, What next? Any ideas?

Best Buy Geeks told me that Insignia digital to Analog box would work just as well . It says on converter box "set your audio device to"PCM" only". Did they'd me wrong?

Many convertors only handle stereo or PCM

This is why this area can be hard on folk. Not only are there a lot of parts but settings.

Sometimes I have to come over to set it for folk. Menus are not standard and not all manuals show all menus so I have to fish around the menus until I find it.

The one recommended in ur last doesn't require a setting? Just optical to optical?

Mixing hardware and settings?

Settings are one thing and yes it's just optical to optical for the convertor but no matter what you get there will always be settings to deal with.

I bet you are just a setting or two away from it working but as I noted, the settings are not always in the HDTV's manual so I can't point to a page and write what to do. Again, I'm left to explore the menus to see what I can find about audio encoding options.

Mixing hardware is great. But

You are mixing hardware questions and settings questions.

I think you have it connected right (that's hardware) and now you have to fish around the settings to see if you can control the audio encoding (settings) to work with the audio decoder in the little box.
