Sony Viao laptop running Vista will not wake up

Dec 24, 2008 9:38PM PST

I have a brand new Sony Viao PGC-7141L laptop
Windows Vista Home Premium
3 gigs ram
250 gig hard drive

Last Friday I placed it in hibernation mode and forgot to wake it up until the following Monday afternoon. When I tried to start the machine the power light (green) turned on and the hard drive light (orange and yellow color?) came on for about 5 seconds. I can also hear the cdrom being read as well. I waited but it never woke up. I decided to plug in the AC plug thinking that the battery may have died and allowed it to recharge for 36 hours.

After recharging I attempted to use the reboot steps off of Sony's website and contacted tech support (they gave me the same answer.) After contacting tech support they suggested that I send it in for service!

Does anyone have a way to awaken my machine? I need it for school. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try the usuals.

1. Remove AC, battery and press, hold the power button 20 seconds. Replace battery, AC and retry.

2. Never let a laptop sleep and the battery run out as it may need this sort of reset to recovery.

3. Try the Fn+Fkey combos that enable or switch display modes.

Good luck.

I removed the battery and ac and replaced the two. The green and orange lights are on solid, and the cd drive ran for a few seconds but it is still asleep.

Sleep/hibernation, etc.

Odd, Bob had the right idea, battery removal etc. Usually you can bring the system out of sleep or hibernation with an fn key combination, assume that you did that, usually fn f4 or fn f5. Otherwise, I too am perplexed. Good luck.
