Sony Vaio PCG-7192L: Getting unidentified network, no connec

Oct 4, 2018 9:18AM PDT

Sony Vaio PCG-7192L: Getting unidentified network, no connection to internet, yellow triangle and exclamation mark. My other Sony desktop and Toshiba tablet are able to get internet, so it is not the router or modem. I was advised that it could be the driver. I don't know what to do. Could someone guide me on how to get to the internet? Thanks

Answer
As to driver.

That would be at Sony on the web page of drivers for your model.

https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/personal-computers-laptop-pc does not list a 7192 but some 719e and 719c so I can't help you if there is a typo there.

It can be the router. I just fixed one where the owner had turned on MAC address filtering but forgot that.

This 100 buck laptop if it's the model I think it is, is also old and the WiFi card could be dead. I do not repair that but try some USB WiFi stick or dongle because repair on such old gear is too dangerous.

It still working except internet

It's still working fine except the internet. Can't be the router because the others are able to get internet.

How do I test to see whatever drivers that are causing this problem?
How can I test to see the WiFi card is defective?

I tried everything there were out there from youtube and other forums but none of the offered solutions worked, ie., ipconfig flush, ipconfig release, ping this and that, etc.

Where can I have my WiFi card replaced?

I've run into "can't be" many times.

I gave one cause and there are many others.

1. Your antivirus or firewall expired. Norton was the first I ran into on that issue.
2. The router has some filtering enabled.
3. There is a hardware failure.

Item 3 is where I take the failing laptop somewhere else or use our own router during the service call.

Since the 7192 was not at the Sony site, I had hope you clear that up either by giving another model number or the link to your laptop at Sony.com

Webroot
Oct 4, 2018 11:55AM PDT

It has Webroot anti-virus software. The others have the same.

The model PCG-7192L I got it at the bottom of the laptop. I couldn't find it at Sony.com either and I am posting to see anyone still has this model.

Do you have links that shows how to diagnose 1,2,3?

1. I uninstall the AV and firewalls.

2. There is no such document. I get into the router config web interface and look OR I install our router for testing.
3. I use some USB WiFI stick or dongle to test.

I don't think links are needed to troubleshoot items 1 to 3. As to the model, since you and I can't find it as Sony we can't check on those drivers. This is exactly when I pull an WiFi stick out of my tech bag.
