Question

Sony VAIO left click and touchpad double tap not working

Oct 15, 2011 4:55PM PDT

Hello, recently my left click and touchpad "double tap" stopped working. model number is VPCF115FM.
The right button for the touchpad still works, I was able to invert the
buttons to be able to use it like the left button. This is apparently a
widespread problem on sony laptops? Sony wants $200 to fix it, I am
sure a soldered connection or a wire has come loose. Can anyone tell me
if they are familiar with this issue, and maybe how to remedy it, as far
as what the fix is if it's a known issue? Any help would be greatly
appreciated! I have a problem paying $200 plus $60 shipping to fix a
wire. Im comfortable opening the case and soldering if I need to, but a more extensive fix might require me sending it to Sony?

Answer
Sounds like it needs repair.

If you are comfortable doing the repair what you discover is there are no repair documents to be found so you have to inspect it and hope you find it. You could also buy a new/used part(s) and hope.

Most folk get a mouse and keep using the laptop till something else breaks.

not hardware problem
Aug 29, 2012 7:13AM PDT

Hi !

I have same problem with my Sony (VPCF1). I also thought this is hardware problem, but it's not. If I boot in Linux both double tap and left touchpad button work. Only when I am in Windows 7 problem is there. It seems that one of W7 updates created some sort of problem with drivers. I have any function I need, except doubletap and left button are unresponsive...

Why not use System Restore to when it worked?
