Question

Sony Vaio laptop VPCCB2M0E drive error no CD drive

May 18, 2012 4:11AM PDT

Purchased a Sony Vaio laptop, model VPCCB2M0E less than 6 months ago, I use a Three USB Dongle for internet access. For past 4 months DVD\CD drive is not visible via 'windows explorer' visibbe via 'my computer' but doesn't work or read DVD or CD.
Also E:\ which is DVD\CD shows the Three USB dongle software for running dongle - 3connect. It seems the USB donge has now replaced DVD\CD drive with E:\ all the time. i have uninstalled DVD\CD drive 4 times via device manager, updated drivers 4 times but to no avail. Has anyone expererinced this or can advice solution......getting really frustrated now and I know a fair amount about I.T. Happy. Thanks

Answer
Did you try moving the CD/DVD drive letter?

Let's say I change my CD/DVD to drive O: (for Optical?). This way when I plug in that thing that wants drive E: than no conflict.

Try this. Go to google and try this phrase.

Change drive letters in Windows Vista.

Pick the answer you like.

Hello Mr Proffitt,

Tried your solution but didn't work, read on google how to change drive, followed procedure but still Not recognizing E:\ for DVD.

Can you help as this is getting very frustrating inability t play DVD\CD. Sad

Thank you

I thought we wanted to use O: ?

It appears that you didn't get the change made or that some software is expecting drive E and nothing else.

I can't offer more advice here given slim details.

Try getting the drive letter to O and use VLC PLAYER for playing DVDs but what does EXPLORER show for drives?

Hi Mr Bob,

I didn't try O:\ just changed the 3 dongle to F:\ hoping after reboot ti twould now show E:\ for DVD\CD, unfortunately it still didn't work after going through to Computer management, Disk management and changing DVD to E:\ and USB 3 dongle to F:\.

I will try changing to O:\ and get back to you immediately.

Thanks for help

Taking up the E: drive. And why I thought to move the optical drive to O:

I fear this is beyond what we can accomplish in a forum so talk to the shop about trying to move the optical drive to O or whatever they feel will fix it.

At least we tried.
