Sony Vaio Digital Studio Desktop

Dec 19, 2004 11:43PM PST

Just wondering if anyone owns a Sony Vaio VGC-RA828G desktop computer? I have been researching these digial studio computers for video editing, etc. I was close to buying it from datavisioncomputer.com and was told that Sony is no longer manufacturing that model and that a newer model (VGC-834G) is coming out in Feb 2005. Appreciate any feedback on the 828G or insight on the new model...

Any "production" model is made in a run of some thousand and production ceases. Any model you see at any store is by definition "out of production". This is a fact of how manufacturing works.

However, Dell's model of letting you customize a PC means yours is made and production ceases. Again, "out of production" again.

How can this be an issue?

Another thought, Sony's support was dead last in some consumer digest. The machines are OK for the most part, but Sony supplies the box as-is and you may find any questions to remain... questions.

Thanks for the clarification on "production". I own an older Dell desktop. I find their customer support ok. I can't stand their menu routing tree when you call for support. It is one of the worst design call flows. Just curious, what would you recommend for a multimedia desktop to do video editing, music and other MS applications.

If you love the Dell menu, try Sony.
