SONY TRV-27 no audio, just loud static on record. Help.

Sep 15, 2006 3:35AM PDT

So I have had my Sony TRV-27 for a few years and rarely use it. A few weeks ago was my daughters christening and I had a buddy film it with my camera and tripod. All the audio is shot. Just loud static. I recorded at home, same thing. I hooked up the camera to my home receiver and in stanby mode all you hear is static being fed to the receiver. I checked all setting, 12bit, 16bit, no difference. Source 1 and 2, 1-2. Nothing. I have not tried an external mic as of yet. I was considering just buying an aftermarket mic, but not sure that would fix the problem. Since add-on mic's arent exactly cheap, I might just have to get a new camera.
Anyone see or hear of anything like this before?

Consider this.

And add-on mic is cheaper than what most charge to just look at the camcorder. I'd take the chance.

Odd problem, not consistant.

I just plugged a plug into the mic input and I still heard the static. Then I tried it again 2 minutes later and the audio was perfect. The noise is like a white noise, video is unaffected. Really odd. I suspect if I were to get an add on mic it wouldnt remedy this.

Try it again a few times. Here's why.

Contacts can corrode and by exercising those contacts you may have scrubbed it clean.

But I still maintain a mic is cheaper than a service diagnostic plus you wanted one anyway.

External mic no help

I never followed up here. The external mic was of no help. Even when I use it, I hear the same static. Any thoughts?
