It's very simple. The video is not being decoded by this player. It's that simple.
Why people expected more is that their PC, Apple or other thing would play it yet there is no PC in that NAS or Sony device so the decoding that is there is limited.
Many other discussions but let's keep it simple. Fixing this is too much for some. It involves figuring out what formats or encoding is supported then converting to that format.
Many say forget this and use an Apple or PC.

Hello chaps,
I write because I am having mixed results with my ethernet-compatible amplifier (Sony STR-DN1020 - http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-home- ... str-dn1020 - yes, my firmware is up to date), to which I am trying to stream music from my NAS (Synology DS411j - http://www.synology.com/us/products/DS411j/index.php ). If I access the NAS directly from the amp, I can stream music fine. This is OK, but the amp interface on the TV is *awful* (I have to scroll up and down with the TV remote control; it is a tiny box in the middle of a large screen; the display is text-only - in short, it feels like I have telnetted in to a system set up in the '80s), so I'd rather use the iPad/iPhone Synology DS Audio apps (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ds-audio/id321495303?mt=8 ) to interact with my DS directly.
However, when I connect to it using my iPad/iPhone, and select the Sony STR-DN1020 as the player, any time I try to play a track, nothing happens on the iPad, and I get "cannot play" displayed on the TV screen (on the amp interface). This is really annoying, as I can play the same track if I select it manually by scrolling through the amp interface, which takes much longer, and rather defeats the point of the iDevice apps.
As such, my first question is, why can I only use the amp to select music from the NAS, not use the iPad app (or the web interface for the NAS, for that matter) to select music for the NAS to send to the amp?
My second problem is that I can't get the amp to display any pictures or videos - they turn up in the file system with exclamation marks, and just don't do anything. This is similarly annoying, as I would like to be able to view them on my TV. My second question, therefore, is, why is this happening?
Many thanks in advance for such help as any of you is able to provide!
All the best,
Chris
