General discussion

Sony PS3 WILL come out in November in simultaneous launch

Mar 14, 2006 10:18PM PST

Oddly enough, DRM was what delayed the spring launch of this year. It will also come with a 60 GB hard drive, and will also offer some online services (lobby matching and voice chat is mentioned) free of charge.

The price? No one knows for sure, but has been rumored to be no less than 50,000 JP Yen.

what an unexpected delay..

The delay wasn't a surprise to me..

What came as the surprise was the reason for the delay. The DRM ... not the Cell processor or the Blu-Ray drive as most people had expected.

<sarcasm>Man, you just got to love DRM ... YEAH!!! </sarcasm>

Skeptical

You know, DRM got the blame for delaying the PS3, but I'm highly skeptical that it was the primary reason for the delay. If we are to believe the DRM issue is now resolved, those things should have been ready to go straight into production and into our greedy little hands within a month.

From a PR standpoint, we all know DRM is a "bad guy" and throwing the blame on that deflects attention away from other more likely causes (e.g. the technology just isn't ready yet).
