sony peg-s300/palm

by so_hard_to_see / March 5, 2005 2:53 AM PST

i have a sony peg-s300 pda which uses the palm desktop 3.1 os. i have recently bought a new pc (running on windows xp home edition)and installed the palm desktop onto the new machine. however, when i try and use the Hotsync manager to synchronize the pc with the handheld i get the error message "port already in use". i have looked at the sony help pages and they suggest that the problem is caused by a previous version of palm on my pc. they suggest completely uninstalling palm and reinstalling the whole thing over again. i have tried to uninstall palm using the uninstall utility in windows. however, when i try and reinstall the palm desktop 3.1 onto my pc i get the message "previous version of palm detected". so my question is this: how do i completely uninstall palm from my pc so that i can reinstall properly? obviously until i can do this i cannot use the hotsync utility with my pda.
