The Sony you have was the top of the line about 4 years ago. Yes there should be better qualiy with a 3ccd chip. And it would be an upgrade. But how much is hard to say. Is there anyway you can go and check them out take a tape and record then watch at home? Upload to your PC and compaire the quality? Then make your choice.
The Panasonic site doesn't give as much info as the Sony site. So it is hard to tell. John
Hi,
I have an older Sony DCR-PC100. I was considering an upgrade to one of the newer camcorders but wanted to make sure it was actually an "upgrade".
The two reasons for wanting to upgrade are better video (especially low light) performance and if possible but secondary, better stills. The stills from my PC100 are very grainy.
I have a budget of around $1000~$1500 and was considering the Panasonic PV-GS400 or the Sony DCR-HC1000. Both of which look like have the 3CCD sensors.
Lots of info out there and I get more confused the more I look. I paid $1800 for the PC100 and want to make sure I don't "downgrade".
Thanks,
Jeff
