Resolved Question

Sony NWZ-A866 Series - Drag and Drop without software?

Sep 3, 2011 8:16AM PDT

Hi,
I am trying to discover if the Sony NWZ-A866 is a true Drag and Drop. I keep reading that it comes with the "Go Media" application that allows one to drag and drop, and it is confusing as, in my opinion, it makes it sound like you NEED this software installed on your computer before you can drag and drop. I do not want to be stuck with a 'Sonic' style application requirement whenever I want to move music around. If I am at someone else's computer, I want to be able to manage my music. If anyone is able to point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated. Cheers, Walter.

The NWZ-A865 doesn't require software/application

I just drag & drop with my NWZ-A865... I didn't install or use the Go Media software that came installed on the device.

You can sync with ITunes but you don't have to. I don't even have it installed on PC.

With a Caveat

Walter,

I neglected to tell you that after I dragged & dropped my music files, they didn't display the cover art on the Walkman. I ignored that fact because the music played perfectly well and I was satisfied with its performance so I didn't really care about album art.

Now I care; the generic Walkman "W" logo which substitutes for album art has been rather boring to look at, so I tried to add/update the album art (of the albums on the device) via GoMedia and couldn't. I became impatient and just deleted the music files, then reinstalled them on the device via GoMedia.

Now I have my cover art.

Speaking of GoMedia, I decided to install it just to try it out and found that (1) its interface looks like Windows Media Player but it's more simple, easier to learn and easier to use and (2) copying/transferring albums/tracks to the Walkman is very easy.

I use Windows 7 and the way I transferred albums to the device was by left-clicking each while holding the control button; then I right-clicked one of the selected albums which gives a pop-up box wherein you choose "send to Walkman". Done.

I might make GoMedia my default music mgmt software.
