Sony Memory Stick in the DSC-P71

Mar 27, 2005 9:06AM PST

Hello all, I have a Sony DSC-P71 camera and I bought a standard 128 meg purple memory stick for it. That holds quite a few pictures but I was wondering if I could get faster performance from the camera with that "other" memory stick called "High Speed MagicGate" which is a white colored memroy stick.

According to the Sony web site, it says that it is "compatable" and operates the same. I was hoping someone has tried it and knows if it is worth buying another memory stick.

Thanks in adavance..

The autofocus lag on the P71 is slow.
It ranges from 1 to 2 seconds.
A high speed memory stick will not improve autofocus.

I understand how slow the autofocus is on the P71's especially moreso when the autofocus iluminator is used. My question really pertains to the time lag during the "store" process after the picture is taken before another picture can be taken.

According to a 2002 review of the P71, the shot to shot time is 2 seconds. Longer is using flash.

It is unlikely that a faster card will help this time.

What is needed is a larger buffer built into the camera.

Here is a way to find out:

Set you camera to take small photos (i.e. 640x480).
Check your shot to shot time.

Then set your camera to take the largest photo it can produce.
Check your shot to shot time.

If there is any difference, a faster memory card may help some.

If there is no difference, save some money and get a less expensive card.
