sony mavica cd failure

My sony mavica MVC CD350 appears to erase the disks, or the header of it, so when I try to view images, or transfer them via USB, or read the disk on PC, I either get NO FILE on disk, camera tries to reformat it (initialize), the RECORDNOW software on my pc does not recognize the CD. I wonder if header was erased somehow ? Is there a utility which will allow to retrieve the pics even when CD does not have a good header ? CD is a SONY CD-R 200MB. Should I use the sony recommended Mavica disks? Help, Thanks.
