Sony laptop runs out battery very fast

Mar 4, 2004 12:29PM PST

I have a Sony VAIO laptop, model# PCG-FXA32. The operating system is Windows XP.
I have a battery problem with this laptop. My battery runs out very fast. Example, If I have a fully-charged battery (Charge for few hours), it will only last for about 20-30 minutes. If I run some programs or watch a movie using my laptop, it will even run out faster. At first, I thought the battery that came with the laptop was bad. I replaced it with a new battery. The new battery still didn't work.
Please help me to find a solution for it.

This is a warranty issue with no fix you can perform.

I have a Sony PGA TRA3, a small sized notebook. The battery life actually stays a full 4.5 hours every time....

I have the same problem. What type of battery did you replace it with? I notice that there is a different battery that you can buy (Li-Ion 14.8 V, 2600 mAh ) that seems to have more power than the 1700 mAh batter that came with it. Did you get an exact replacement?

Yes, there is news.
the battery is BAD. Thats the only explanation I can think of because even the mosty power hungery machine should last an hour at least.
The only time I have experienced such power drain on a battery is when the battery on my toshiba started going dead.
See, if a battery is bad or going bad, it will usually still function for small periods of time. My dying battery gave me about 20-30 minutes worth of use for almost a year befor it finally bought the farm. So if you are getting a battery that only lasts a little while, I would reccomend trying to pug in another battery and see if it gets the same kind of power drain. if it does not, then you will know for sure that your battery is bad.

i have a sony pcg-k17, and the battery runs out in the exact same time as yours. I called sony and they said it was because of the xbrite screen.

That's a laugh. That would be like sony's poor support to blame 30-minute battery life on their own screen. In essence, they're calling the short battery life a "feature."

Now with 40% less battery life! Happy
