Resolved Question

Sony Laptop

Sony VGN-AR320E Vaio Laptop - Started getting very thin vertical lines of different colors starting 6 days ago. Started with a few, then had dozens. Now I have a large vertical black area, with some colored vertical lines, in the same area. Does this sound like motherboard/video chip problem, or a dying LCD? Thank You.

See if an external has same issue.

If so, it's on the main board.

Thank you for your response; but the image to the right and left of the screen is ok. Could it be a backlight issue, or is the GPU about to die. Still a great laptop would hate to just scrape it. Thank you.

Sorry I was unclear.

An external display is needed to figure out where the issue is. I'm guessing you don't have access to basic gear to perform the first step.
