Below you'll find the settings I found best for viewing the Sony KDL-60W850B in a dim room via the HDMI input. Your settings may vary depending on source, room conditions, and personal preference. Check out the Picture settings and calibration FAQ for more information.

Calibration notes:

The W850B review sample I received offers one of the most accurate pre-calibration settings I've seen, Cinema 1, which needed almost no tweaking to come as close as possible to our ideal calibration. After bringing it up to our 40fL target by maxing out the Backlight control, I barely touched the grayscale controls, left the Advanced Contrast Enhancer in Low (in Off mode gamma got worse) and left the rest of the controls pretty much untouched.

The main issue was color, namely the orangish hue of red. Since Sony doesn't include a color management system, my only option was to fiddle with Hue and Color to try to bring red's error levels lower without too much impact on the other colors. I was only marginally successful.

But your tv calibrations suck. I've used Samsung for my modle Samsung and now Sony for my. First you set the backlight to 3. What the hell !!!! Most people watch tv during the day. Backlight should be about a 7. Calibrate for day time please. Motion plus on my Sony gave my tv a soap Oprah look. If you would of brightened it up you would of noticed.

It only makes sense to give the best calibration settings for the best viewing environment. If you've been following for years then you know that is how it is.

But I agree the backlight set to 3 is not good. It gives a subdued picture with no pop. Coming from plasma, leaving the backlight at 7 and then dialing back the brightness to somewhere between 35 and 45 gives me a desirable picture, at least for a direct viewing angle. If you have viewers off angle you may want to dial it back even more.
