Sony KDL-40V2500 Cloudy

by chad2112 / December 12, 2006 10:50 PM PST

Anyone have any ideas as to why the blank screen would resemble clouds or more accurately muddy, rather faint, light and dark areas that resembles smoke? It also appears when watching a DVD in the letter box and into the picture. It's consistent whether watching TV or DVD and always in the same area, the shape and size of the "smoke" is always the same and in the same place. It's only noticable in darker conditions and dark scenes. Just bought it, using HDMI cables to connect cable box to TV. Had a Samsung 40" LCD that I returned that did not have this problem and it was hooked up the same way.

Thanks for any help. HD... what a difference.

I've had the same issue you're having. As far as the picture goes, the Sony's are definetely the best out there. Comparing the images side by side to other lcds, not many compare. The closest one might be the samsung and the sharp aquos. However, these lcds aren't without issues of their own. The samsung shares the same lcd screen as the sony, so this one too has clouding issues. The aquos apparently has banding issues so's a problem. If you're willing to take the chance, exchange the tv and hope for the next set to not have that problem...but that's playing roulette. If you want something immediate and which you know you won't have to deal with things you have no control over, just go for a plasma. You might save some $ in the process.
