Question

sony hvr z5p

Apr 3, 2015 11:01AM PDT

I'm trying to record the footage from the mini DV tape to my computer using a Sony HVR Z5p. I have firewire, HDMi and my computer programs (premier pro/ sony HD vegas) is not recognising any signal for capture. Does anyone have any ideas?
Should i be using a HD tape play back unit?
cheers for any help
sam

Answer
Usually you have to do transfer via one app, edit in another

There are folk that expected an app to do it all. From my old miniDV days I always used apps like WINDV for transfer then another app for editing. This can really upset those that want one app to rule them all.

Answer
FireWire cable

If your computer is not recognising the camera in any way, it may be that the plugs on your FireWire cable are a bit too short. I had this problem with my Canon HV20 and a different FireWire cable sorted it.
