Sony HDR HC7 Problem

Nov 15, 2007 1:18AM PST

Greetings All, I've had this camera since March and taken several hours of video and no problems. On a recent vacation I'd been using the camera and when I went to turn it on the next day, nothing. No power. Changed batteries. Nothing. Went home and plugged in external power, nothing. Made sure batteries were charged, nothing. Called Sony (no longer under warranty of course) and told to ship it to Laredo TX for $250 for repairs. Called Laredo to make sure what to send and thought they might walk me thru camera problem and grabbed battery and installed into camera. Camera worked! No problem. Now three weeks later (camera has not been used in two weeks) camera dead again. Tried to repeat what I'd done before, no luck. Any suggestions?

Waiting before I send it off.

Sony HDR HC7 Problem
Dec 12, 2008 1:09AM PST

I have the same problem, sent in the camera twice to Laredo service center and both times sent back to me once with a new battery and other with new charger. But after use and a few days later went to turn back on and could do nothing to turn back on. Sony obviously has a quality problem with this product and is not taking ownership for these issues. After spending numerous hours on the phone with Customer support, customer relations and Laredo I am ready to send this camera to Sony USA president for him to see the product quality... "not"... or use it as a paper weight on his desk.

I bought the camera in the Netherlands in 2007. Got the same problems in 2010. Brought it in and warranty was over of course. Got it repaired used it twice and yesterday it went down again and with the same problem you reported. My wife is going to Japan next week and I'll have it checked there. I'll keep you posted about my progress. This could be a bigger problem in the design.
