Question

Sony HDR-FX1000e LCD screen replacement?

Aug 17, 2014 1:29AM PDT

I recently bought a used HDR-FX1000e, the LCD has has some of its protective coating stripped. I think the previous owner accidentally used something too abrasive to clean the screen with and in turn stripped some of the coating / film from the screen.

This means the screen is near impossible to see while filming. So I need to replace the LCD. The previous owner did mention that the screen may need replacing.

I have done some repair work on cameras before but not something like this. I've looked online to try and find a guide to replace the LCD screen for an HDR-FX1000e but I've found nothing.

Here is a replacement screen: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LCD-Display-Screen-for-Sony-HDR-AX2000E-FX1000E-AX2000E-FX1000-AX2000-/151127701639?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Digital_Camera_Parts&hash=item232fe9b887.

I presume that the flex cable needs to be disconnected from the fault screen and reconnected with the new one? Is that all there is to it? I really dont have the budget to send this off to repair so I'm looking for any help on how to do it / what needs to be done.

Any and all help will be really appreciated.

Thanks!

There are tear down videos at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vzlNihjqR4 which at about 3 minutes you see some of what you will encounter. Later you see the tab bond flat cables that I see so many new tech tear and well, that's the end of that.

A camcorder would be same but on a smaller scale. Frankly I would NOT do this repair. Your post sounds like you would be devastated if it didn't work out.
