Question

Sony HDR-CX110 Snowy Screen Issue

Sep 29, 2013 7:42AM PDT

I have a Sony Handycam HDR-CX110 that has begun to give me a "snowy" screen on my LCD when I open the camera. The screen will appear with the lens cover open and closed, which leads me to believe something is wrong with the lens.

All of the functions on the touch screen appear and function as they normally would. The camera still records, but the video records the same snowy mess that appears when turning the camera on. The audio records perfectly fine.

Here is a video of what I see when opening the LCD door.

Answer
Since the lens

is just glass, I don't think that is the source of the problem. More likely the imaging chip, or other electronic component not doing its job for whatever reason.

It is likely the diagnosis and repair will be more than the expense of replacing the camcorder - but you won't know for sure unless you contact a Sony authorized repair shop - or Sony.

fixed for now

We actually got the camcorder back to working condition. I know it's not a scientific fix, but giving the camera a couple of smacks fixed the issue. Pretty much like fixing an old TV's picture. Hopefully it keeps on working!

Ah yes... the old

Sony-smack.I've successfully "repaired" my HDR-HC1... a couple of times - but the LCD panel symptom was not the issue.

Glad to know all is well in your world for now.
