Sony HDR-CX100. AVCHD Conversion for Editing Questions.

Feb 15, 2010 2:15PM PST

Hello, I have been searching since I started using my Sony HDR-CX100 Camera last month. I need to know the technical details on filetype conversions and what-not. Here is the run-down.

I am currently using a Dell Inspiron 1525. The Video files are saved on a 500gb Iomega Go External HDD. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.

First of all, I cannot find a program to even play back the AVCHD files. Everything I get is super choppy. I heard Windows Media Player 11 can get a codec for it, but in a whole different story, I got scammed on eBay and recieved an illegal copy of Windows and am currently going through stuff to get that fixed, so windows cannot be verified to even download WMP11.

My default player is the AVS Player, which is REALLY choppy playing them and I have tried about 5 other players that failed miserably. Most of them just played sound with a scratchy looking green screen.

Either way on the playback it doesn't really matter right now. But Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 does not allow this new Hi-Def filetype. So I am needing to convert them into a filetype that will not take away quality and let me edit the video very well in the program.

If someone here could let me know a program to do this, money is really no issue, and the exact conversion stats i.e. AVI, Mpeg etc. and also the specifics ... Bitrate, FPS etc. Also the sound conversion stats. I'm sure if your responding you are going to know exactly what I need anyways so I won't bore you with me typing anymore examples of what I need.

If anyone can help that would be so so great, this has been so tedious while currently trying to put together these videos I need done. IF you need anymore specifications from me, feel free to ask. Thank you.

I have my cpu sitting right next to me, they are fully upgradeable. I have upgraded the RAM, DVD, HDD, and wifi card so far, and I pulled off the heatsink to take out the dust, and you just take a flat head screwdriver and turn the lock and it pops right out, same as a regular mobo. My laptop is sitting in pieces right now, so i'm just getting ideas.

I figured out the problem and i'm pretty sure it could be the problem for alot of people's playback.

Unless you have an AMAZING processor with an awesome computer setup, playback with the recording resolution of 1920x1080 is going to be impossible. I set my camera to record on the second highest quality, which is 1440x1080 highest quality. the playback is flawless on my computer. I am in the process of converting them all to 720p since that is the max I will be host the video on youtube anyways.

I will only be worrying about keeping the files true HiDef if I actually start making full length DVD's which at that point I would have better equipment anyways.
