Sony HD-E1 Portable External Hard Drive

Bought my HD-E1 (1TB) a couple of years ago and used on my Sony laptop which was running Vista. Updated to Windows 10 a while back but the hard drive isn't operating. Can it be updated as well to run on Windows 10? Also do I need a procedure to disconnect it from the laptop or can I just unplug it? Thanks

Clarification Request
Here my external just shows up as a drive letter.

There's no update required. Now if there was some app that runs when you plug it in, that would be a trip to Sony's web site to see if they have a new version.

Thanks, I'll try that.
