I spendt a nice piece of change for what many considered to be the state of the art handycam. And, it certainly was...when it worked. I purchased the item in advance of my first European trip and read all of the material in advance of and in anticipation of the great wonders I expected to record. The Sony item crapped out on me after 20 minutes when I experienced that the right half of the screen turned black. I purchased the item from a reputable dealer and received a new exchange. The second item was faulty in that the lens cover failed to close. Both times, SONY employees explained that SONY would only offer to "repair" or "replace" the item under the warranty (only 20 minutes into my use!!!). For this money, look elsewhere for a more suitable warranty.
