Sony fixed my DCR-TRV22!!!

Oct 25, 2005 2:38PM PDT

Hey folks...

After much gnashing of teeth by all parties involved, I got my camcorder back from Sony in working order. I, like many here, experienced problems with a defective CCD chip about two months shy of two years of ownership. Although Sony initially denied the problem, they eventually owned up to it and offered to repair the defective camcorders at their cost. After getting an email with a UPS label, I packed up my camcorder and shipped it to them. This was about two weeks ago. Today, I received my camera via UPS. It had already been serviced. I popped the battery on it and turned it to camera mode and it works just as it did before. I'm so happy it's been serviced and am just as happy that others with the same problem are getting their cameras fixed too.

Thanks Sony. I was initially disappointed in your company, but I am delighted to report a happy ending to this saga. It renews my confidence in purchasing Sony products in the future.

I had the exaclt same scenario. My CCD sensor went bad after around 2 years. They said it would cost $180 for them to LOOK at the camera. How did you get them to fix this for you?

How I got them to fix it...

After I found out here that the service website had a note regarding defective CCDs, I immediately called them. After a couple of minutes, I directed the customer service rep to the website, they looked at it and called a supervisor over. They transferred me to the supervisor, and agreed to fix my camera. About a week later, they emailed me a UPS label. I packed up my camera with a note about the CCD failure and lots of packing peanuts. This was shipped by air to their Laredo service center. About two weeks later, the camera arrived back from Sony at my doorstep. I attached the battery and put it in camera mode and it again seemed to function. So, we've been filming with it ever since. Once they got in motion, they got the problem fixed very rapidly and to my complete satisfaction. Other than not being able to use the camera for a little over a month, I was pleased with the turnaround on this. My camera was about ten months out of warranty, and after admitting a manufacturing problem, they picked up all the charges. I was pretty happy about that and the fact Sony was fixing the cameras of others here on CNET. Thanks to all you folks here at CNET!

But due to the disaster they created with their rootkit, I will never buy anything Sony again!
