Sony Ericsson is GSM focused

In reply to: sony ericcson question

Verizon and Sprint use CMDA wireless technology. Sony Ericsson specializes in GSM/WCDMA wireless technology, that is used in most of the rest of the world as well as by AT&T (Cngular) and T-mobile. They use to make a few phones for CDMA but they weren't popular and Sony Ericsson left that business. Virgin and AMP'd use the CDMA networks of Verizona and Soprint and don't own their own network.

Sony Ericsson is just a company that has built their popularity around GSM phones. They also probably dont want their phone's interfaces crippled by carriers like verizon who just have to mess up a phone's UI. Their phones are built for global use. That's why a huge percentage of their phones arent on a carrier.
