How is the DVD player connected to the TV? Is there an option on the remote to switch inputs? (Depending on the age of the TV) you have at least a tv.cable input, video (1 cable for video, 2 for audio), component video (3 video and 2 audio).
If it is a brand new DVD player -- how is it setup in the menu? It may be on progressive scan as a default and your TV may not be able to handle progressive scan. There might be an option to switch the DVD player to interlaced (what model DVD player?).
Did the PS2 work before? How are things connected?
