Sony DV1000 Help Please

Hi,i just got a Sony DV1000 camcorder.The problem i have is the installation disc installs"videoimpression2" and"photoimpression5" but when i try to connect the camera i get the message "cannot connect to device" Is there a way around this or is there another way of getting my footage from camera to p.c.?Any help would be much appreciated.My first camcorder so i.m pretty much in the dark here.Thank you.

For you, I can't tell. Sorry, but try google.com to find out if your cable is firewire. Try the images search.

I get the 4 to 6 pin firewire cable from newegg.com or geeks.com (10 bucks?) and WINDV from google.com (free) and transfer my video.

Some want to complicate this, but I'd rather not.

Firewire has two sizes of connectors similar to USB.
You need a firewire card for you PC, many cards com with cable, big connector on one end and small connector on the other, $20~45. The small end should fit the Sony. John
