Question

Sony DSC-W210 Problem

May 16, 2011 9:11PM PDT

I am trying to help an friend who has the Sony DSC-W210. The problem is that when he transfers pictures from the camera to his computer, they appear in his Pictures folder in groups of four surrounded by a coloured border, instead of individually. They can be opened there individually by left-clicking as normal, but if he selects the "send by email" option all four appear in the attachments line of the email, even though he may only have selected one or two. If he then deletes the unwanted ones from the email, they disappear from the attachments line, but the email on arrival still has all four in it. He downloads from camera to computer by a USB cable, leaving the memory card in the camera. Can anyone please suggest where the problem might be, and how to solve it. Many thanks.

Apparently your friend is using the software that came with the camera to download the images.

I have never used that software, but it is possible that something in the camera has inadvertently been set that is affecting the download.

I suggest they reset the camera to factory settings first.
To do this, look in the User Manual for the Index.
Under Index, look for "Initialize".
Go to the page listed under "Initialize".
Follow the instructions there to Initialize the camera.
That sets the camera to factory settings.

Then try download the images again.

....
If that does not help, I would suggest they buy a memory card reader for their computer.
Usually less than $10 at any store that sells digital cameras.
Get one for the type of memory card the camera is using.

Insert the memory into the card reader.
The computer will think that the memory card is a disk.
You can drag and drop your picture files to the computer.
