The W12 must be a European version of the W1 or W5 camera. The W12 is not available in the USA.
It sounds like you have the "digital zoom" feature active.
Digital zoom lowers the quality of the photo.
It (in effect) reduces the megapixels applied to an area of a photo.
Digital zoom should not be used if you want quality results.
.........................
White balance is used to affect the color balance of a photo.
If you want to affect the exposure (lighter/darker), you should use the "Exposure Compensation" adjustment.

Can you help?
When I take pictures on the W side of the zoom scale, the trim it, to the T side, the pictures are normally beautifully clear, but if I take pictures on the T side of the zoom scale, then try to trim it and bring it closer, it is not clear. Is this normal with this camera, or is it a problem?
I also have a problem with the white balance. If I adjust the camera to cloudy, I would have thought that the picture would have come out lighter, but in actual fact it comes out darker - which seems strange to me.

Trevor
